Why Nominate

Vincent Liew exemplifies the qualities of a modern legal leader — technically sharp, strategically minded, and deeply committed to elevating the legal profession across borders.

At just 31, Vincent has already distinguished himself as an Equity Partner and Head of the Intellectual Property Department at Richard Wee Chambers, a member of Grandall Law Firm, one of Asia’s fastest-growing firms. He co-founded both the Malaysia office of Grandall Law Firm and Granstrat Consulting, demonstrating entrepreneurial vision and leadership beyond his years.

His career trajectory spans private practice and in-house counsel, including his tenure as Regional IP Counsel at Grab, where he managed IP strategy and enforcement across Southeast Asia. This rare dual perspective enables him to offer pragmatic and commercially relevant solutions in complex matters. He led the first-ever international trademark registration under the Madrid Protocol in Malaysia and has advised on multi-million ringgit cross-border transactions, IP disputes, and licensing strategies, serving clients ranging from technology giants to F&B conglomerates.

Vincent’s commitment to the profession is equally evident in his service to key local and international bodies. He sits on various committees under the Malaysian Bar Council, the International Trademark Association (INTA), and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), reflecting the trust placed in him to shape policy and discourse in IP and legal tech.

He is also an accredited arbitrator (MCIArb), a registered patent, trademark, and industrial design agent in Malaysia, and regularly speaks at international conferences and educational forums, including in China and ASEAN. His ability to bridge practice, academia, and industry sets him apart as a true thought leader.

Clients regularly commend his foresight, precision, and responsiveness. He is known for his ability to simplify complex issues, anticipate commercial risks, and execute strategic solutions that align with business objectives. Many view him not just as a legal advisor, but as a trusted partner.

Beyond professional achievements, Vincent actively mentors young practitioners and contributes to CSR initiatives, reflecting his belief that legal excellence must be grounded in service and compassion. His aspirations to author books, complete a PhD, and elevate his firm into the top tier of Malaysian law firms reflect a long-term commitment to shaping the future of law.

For his impactful practice, leadership in legal innovation, and unwavering commitment to professional and public service, Vincent Liew is a deserving nominee for this award.

Recognition

Key Achievements

Over the past two (2) years, Vincent Liew has demonstrated remarkable growth as a legal practitioner, leader, and industry voice. At just 31, he was appointed Equity Partner and Head of the Intellectual Property (IP) Department at Richard Wee Chambers, a member of Grandall Law Firm — one of Asia’s fastest-growing legal networks. In this role, he co-founded the Malaysia office and led its IP division to become a key practice area for the firm, advising clients across Southeast Asia in both contentious and non-contentious IP matters.

He played a pivotal role in advising and negotiating a RM40 million cross-border joint venture for a multinational F&B company, overseeing regulatory, corporate, and IP structuring. He also helped steer the Asia-Pacific expansion of a local public-listed company and a technology startup’s growth involving AI integration, private equity funding, and the development of a comprehensive patent, trademark, and design portfolio.

Vincent continued to serve as a trusted advisor for numerous Malaysian and international brands in their IP protection, commercialisation, and enforcement strategies — many of which involved cross-border elements and required nuanced regional knowledge. In one matter, he successfully negotiated an out-of-court settlement in a high-stakes industrial design and patent dispute, helping a client avert prolonged litigation and millions in potential damages.

In parallel, Vincent’s influence in the legal community grew. He was appointed to multiple Malaysian Bar Council Committees (Intellectual Property; Legal Tech, AI & Sandbox; Cyber Law & Privacy) and international bodies such as INTA’s ADR and Dispute Resolution Committees, and the Young AIPPI Members Committee.

He contributed thought leadership through lectures in Malaysia and China, and moderated key industry webinars on deepfakes, fraud, and digital rights. He also became a CIArb Member (MCIArb), a registered patent agent, and served as a judge and arbitrator in numerous national and international legal competitions.

Vincent’s ability to bridge technical excellence, regional insight, and professional service — while mentoring junior lawyers and giving back to his community — marks him as a standout legal talent in Asia’s evolving IP and tech law landscape.
